I AM ANGELA DAVIS
Angela Davis is an accomplished artist who prides herself in being versatile. She does not like to say she only sings a certain genre.
Angela has two very loving and supportive parents who have helped make her the woman that she is today. They inspired her to not only chase but believe in her dreams. They stay behind the scenes during her performances but they are in the front of her heart in everything she does.
She is recognized as being an R&B / Soul artist who loves to sing. Whether it is songs from her favorite artists Anita Baker, Jill Scott, Stevie Wonder, and the Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin or songs that she has written such as her latest "Know You Better" and her 2020 women's anthem "Finish Line"-- her voice does give audiences a chance to experience music from a different perspective and unique groove.
Angela loves to command the stage and watch people smile to her voice. One of the things that inspires her is to know that her singing a song could be the song that helps someone overcome a difficult time or remember a special day that will last a lifetime.
Her story begins with the Renaissance High School Varsity Choir in Detroit where she earned numerous awards, toured across the country and was first recorded. Soon afterwards, she began writing and arranging her own songs.
An artist was in the making but her parents instilled the importance of a good education. She attended the University of Michigan where she earned a Bachelor's Degree in Education. While at U of M she performed on music and theatrical stages in the community and around the City of Detroit. This helped to lay the foundation for her hard work and drive towards a successful singing career.
Another passion of Angela's is children which inspired her to go into education. She wanted to have a first-hand impact on the future of today's children.
After the University of Michigan, Angela began performing more to perfect her craft because she felt as an artist that it was her job to give a unique and compelling performance. She wanted to provide not just a moment... but an experience.
Angela has performed at some of the most popular music venues in Detroit - including the oldest jazz club in the world The Baker's Keyboard Lounge, The Music Hall Jazz Cafe, Bert's Motown Lounge, Campus Martius Park, and Chene Park Amphitheatre, Hart Plaza of Detroit, the Detroit Music Hall Center for the Performing Arts, and in 2018 performed the Star-Spangled Banner before over 100,000 cheering soccer fans during the International Champions Cup at the University of Michigan in the largest football stadium in America "The Big House."
Angela has sung in the past alongside some great vocalists like Alexander O'Neal, Cherrelle, Penny Wells, Howard Hewitt, and the legendary Detroit keyboardist, Al McKenzie. She most recently shared the stage with Keith Washington, Gerald Albright, and Grammy Award Winning Artist Norman Brown. Angela often performs with two well-known and respected bands, 313 the Live Experience and Cancel Monday.
Angela's debut record album, "Flying High", was released in 2012. It features a mix of R&B, Jazz and Soul.
In the summer of 2015, she sang live during The Ford Fireworks Show on the Detroit riverfront in the heart of Downtown Detroit. Later that year she sang in the Art Van Thanksgiving Day Parade produced by The Parade Company.
In addition to her busy performing schedule, Angela continued her pursuit of higher education and in 2015 received her Master's in Special Education with an emphasis on Learning Disabilities.
